Two Tribes capped off a remarkable week by winning the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood on Saturday, August 2, 2025.
The Richard Spencer-trained runner was ridden by David Egan and went off at 11-2. Just a day earlier, he had been priced as high as 18-1.
Two Tribes caps off excellent week with Stewards’ Cup win
It marked his second win in just seven days. The first came in the International Handicap at Ascot. According to the National Stud on X, in a week he’s picked up over £200,000 in prize money after winning at Ascot last weekend
Named after the 1980s hit Two Tribes by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, the horse is owned by Phil Cunningham.
Drawn in stall 25 of 27, Two Tribes surged clear down the final stretch. He won by two and a half lengths, leaving Strike Red second and Jakajaro third.
Egan was full of praise after the win.
“He actually did it easier there than he did in the International,” he said.
“Not many horses can do a quick double like that.”
He punched the air in celebration as they crossed the line.
Trainer Richard Spencer had more to smile about. According to The Independent, the softer ground here probably helped him, in that it made the race a greater test of stamina than perhaps might have been the case on quick ground.
In addition to the winner, Spencer also saddled fourth-placed Run Boy Run, who came from stall 19, and fifth-placed Twilight Calls (stall 11), who, his trainer said, he felt would have finished closer had he had a high draw.
When the field split, he’d gone with the far side group.
Earlier in the day, Callum Rodriguez guided Waardah to victory in the Lillie Langtry Stakes. The Owen Burrows-trained filly impressed in the closing stages.
It was a welcome turnaround for Rodriguez. He was one of five jockeys forced to miss rides on Thursday when their private plane made an emergency landing.
“It was a messy start to the week,” Rodriguez, as cited by the BBC.
“But we made sure that we were on four wheels today.”
Meanwhile, Oisin Murphy finished the five-day festival as the top jockey. He rode six winners in total.
Previously, Match of the Day presenter Gabby Logan had a reason to smile on Thursday, July 31, as her daughter, Lois, made her racing debut at the Qatar Goodwood Festival in Chichester.
