Petr Čech, one of football’s greatest goalkeepers, has revealed he and his wife Martina are going their separate ways after more than two decades together. The 43-year-old former Chelsea star broke the news to fans on Instagram, describing it as a difficult moment in his life.
Petr Cech splits with wife after 26 years together
Their story began in 1999, when they were just a pair of young dreamers. Four years later, in 2003, they exchanged vows and built a family together, per Tribuna.
They have two children, Adela, 17, and Damian, 16, who have both inherited their father’s love for sport.
In his post, Čech shared a touching black-and-white photo of Martina kissing him on the cheek. Alongside it, he wrote:
“Martina and myself are sad to announce that we are separating after 26 years together. We remain best friends and immensely proud of our two children.”
It’s clear from his words that, despite the marriage coming to an end, there’s deep respect and no animosity between them.
Adela is making her mark as a defender for the Czech Republic’s Under-17 team, while Damian is carving out his own path as a goalkeeper, recently signing his first professional contract with Fulham.
Petr Cech pursues new profession after football career
Čech’s own career remains the stuff of legend. After arriving at Chelsea from Rennes for £7 million in 2004, he became the cornerstone of the club’s most successful era: lifting four Premier League titles and famously helping the Blues to their first Champions League triumph in 2012.
He later played for Arsenal before hanging up his gloves.
These days, he has swapped the football pitch for the ice rink, pursuing a new passion for ice hockey, and until 2022, he also served as a technical and performance advisor at Chelsea.
From his achievements on the field to the way he’s handled this personal chapter with grace, Petr Čech continues to show the same composure that once made him unbeatable between the posts.
