Newcastle United have turned down a £110 million bid from Liverpool for striker Alexander Isak. The offer falls well short of the Magpies’ £150 million valuation for the Swede.

Isak is reportedly eager to leave this summer. He has even started training at his former club, Real Sociedad.

Newcastle haven’t denied reports that the 26-year-old has gone AWOL. He recently pulled out of their pre-season tour of the Far East, citing a thigh injury.

The club, however, remains firm. They will only sell if the deal makes sense, financially and strategically. That means getting the right fee and having a replacement ready.

Sources say Newcastle are eyeing Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. Brentford’s Yoane Wissa is also on their radar. Talks over a move for Wissa are still ongoing. But unless those deals progress and Liverpool come back with a bigger offer, Isak will stay put at St James’ Park, according to Mail Sports.

Newcastle’s struggles in finding Alexander Isak’s replacement

In the meantime, Newcastle are frustrated. Their search for a new striker has hit snags. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko was their top target.

But Manchester United have now stepped in. With Sesko slipping away, the Magpies have expanded their shortlist. It now includes Wissa, Watkins, and Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Still, nothing concrete has materialised. And as things stand, Isak won’t be sold. The club won’t be pressured into a deal that doesn’t suit them. But the past week has complicated things.

Trust appears broken. And bringing Isak back into the fold may no longer be straightforward.
