Man United Urged To ‘Swallow’ Pride and Sign Napoli’s Hot Dog Amid Struggles In Premier League

Teddy Sheringham has urged Manchester United to consider bringing Scott McTominay back to Old Trafford following the midfielder’s remarkable success at Napoli.

McTominay, who left United last summer for a £21 million ($28m) move, enjoyed a sensational debut season in Italy.

Under Antonio Conte, he helped fire Napoli to Serie A glory and even earned a Ballon d’Or nomination, proving to be one of the bargains of the season.

For Sheringham, a United treble hero in 1999, the Scottish midfielder’s resurgence is exactly what his former club needs.

While outlining his ideal XI under new boss Ruben Amorim, he suggested that McTominay would be the perfect replacement for Casemiro, whose best days, in his opinion, are behind him.

Sheringham told Snabbare, as quoted by GOAL:
“I would definitely go with Sesko up front and Matheus Cunha just off him.

“That leaves it tough for Fernandes in midfield but he’s obviously the captain and has been playing very, very well the last couple of years with his performances and his goals.

“I would get McTominay back if I could and put him in alongside Fernandes in midfield to add a bit of steel but obviously that was a permanent move. He’s not coming back. So you’ve got Casemiro. His legs are gone so it’s going to be tough to play him there so he’d need a lot of help from Fernandes and Cunha.

“Casemiro can pull his man slightly wide, Cunha can tuck in alongside him in midfield, making Fernandes very secure.

“Amad Diallo, I would play wide right. I like him. Mbeumo goes wide left. Amad is a very lively player. Very expressive in the way he plays. You can manipulate younger players too in order to fit what the team needs to get close as a unit and go from there.”

Sheringham’s comments highlight both admiration for McTominay’s growth in Italy and concern for United’s current midfield balance.

While he admits a return is unrealistic, his vision underlines how highly the Scot is still regarded at Old Trafford.
