Jack Grealish is set for a fresh start, swapping Manchester City’s star-studded bench for a season-long loan at Everton.
The 29-year-old winger has slipped down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola, missing out on City’s Premier League finale against Fulham and their Club World Cup trip to the United States.
Jack Grealish joins Everton on loan
According to BBC Sport, City and Everton have struck a deal, with a medical on the horizon.
Grealish, who earns a reported £300,000 a week, made headlines in 2021 when he left boyhood club Aston Villa for a then British-record £100 million fee.
His time at the Etihad has brought silverware in abundance: three Premier League titles, a Champions League and an FA Cup, but last season told a different story.
He managed just seven league starts as City finished without a major trophy. Even in the FA Cup final, Guardiola opted to hand a debut to teenage sensation Claudio Echeverri instead of calling on his experienced No.10.
Back in June, the England international was understood to be seeking a permanent move, preferably to a Champions League side, but offers from clubs like Newcastle or Tottenham never materialised.
What a move to Everton mean for Grealish?
Everton’s proposal may not come with European football, yet it offers something Grealish arguably needs more: the stage to rediscover his spark.
At the Toffees’ brand-new Hill Dickinson Stadium, Grealish will have the opportunity to be the main man again.
More than just a fresh chapter, this could be his audition to win back a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad,a goal that has lingered since he admitted being “heartbroken” over missing Euro 2024.
