Former Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli has suffered a huge blow amid his efforts to make a comeback to football. His road back to regular football looks steep. His return is far from the fairytale many had hoped for.
Alli joined Italian side Como in January. He signed an 18-month deal after leaving Everton, where he made just one start.
Dele Alli suffers fresh blow at Como
Injuries have haunted the 29-year-old in recent years. A setback during his loan spell at Besiktas in 2023 sidelined him until March.
His long-awaited debut for Como was his first competitive game in 748 days. But it didn’t go as planned.
Dele was shown a red card after a VAR review for a reckless tackle on Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Since then, he hasn’t made another appearance.
Now, his situation seems to be worsening. According to La Repubblica, Dele didn’t report to Como’s base in Mozzate when the squad returned on July 10. Instead, he stayed in Marbella, training on his own.
Ironically, the team is now holding pre-season in Marbella. But Dele has returned to Mozzat, still training alone.
What Cesc Fabregas said about Dele Alli
According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the English midfielder is no longer part of Cesc Fabregas’ plans. Fabregas hasn’t been impressed with the one-time wonderkid. Speaking to DAZN, Fabregas said:
“Dele Alli is a player who can score goals. But he didn’t deserve this opportunity. He’s only trained with us for two weeks and has a lot to improve.”
Fabregas didn’t hold back on the red card either.
“It was a clear red,” he said. “He left the team with 10 men at a key moment. That’s the most disappointing part of the night.”
