The seven-time world champion endured another nightmare qualifying session ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix. While Ferrari celebrated their first pole of the 2025 season, Hamilton was nowhere near the spotlight.

The 40-year-old crashed out in Q2 and will start 11th on the grid. His teammate, Charles Leclerc, stole the show with a flying lap of 1:15.372. That put him just 0.026 seconds ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, as noted by talkSPORT.

It was Leclerc’s first-ever pole in Hungary while his illustrious teammate endured misery.

For Hamilton, Hungary has always been special. He’s taken pole here nine times, more than any driver at a single track. He’s also won the race eight times, second only to Silverstone.

But this weekend marked a harsh shift. For the second race in a row, he failed to reach Q3. It’s the first time in 19 visits to the Hungaroring that Hamilton didn’t make the final qualifying session.

And he took full responsibility. Over the team radio, his voice cracked with frustration. “Every time… every time,” he sighed.

Later, speaking to Sky Sports, he didn’t hold back. “It’s me every time. I’m useless, absolutely useless,” Hamilton said.

He refused to blame the car. Ferrari had proved its pace with Leclerc on pole. Then came a chilling remark: “Team’s not the problem… probably needs to change drivers.”

It was a brutally honest moment from one of F1’s greatest drivers, now battling self-doubt, not just lap times.
