Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku has officially acquired his Ghanaian passport, strengthening his ties with the West African nation.
The 23-year-old, born in Antwerp, Belgium traces his roots to Ghana via his parents, David and Belinda Doku and has been in the birth country of his parents since July 11.
After playing with the Cityzens at the revamped FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, Doku opted to spend his vacation in West Africa, where he has been engaging in charity work and reconnecting with his roots.

On Monday, July 21, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that the pacy winger has acquired a Ghanaian passport.
“This was the wish of Jérémy and his family when they called on me last week — glad we successfully delivered chip-embedded passports today,” the minister wrote on his timeline.
“As a dual citizen he is legally entitled to a Ghanaian passport. This significant development confirms Jérémy Baffour Doku’s commitment to fully reconnect with Ghana despite playing for Belgium. I wish him the very best in his illustrious career.”
Does it mean Jeremy Doku has rescinded his Belgian nationality?
No. Doku remains a Belgian international but what the acquisition of a Ghanaian passort means is that he has become a dual citizen and thus stands a chance to benefit from basic rights such as legally acquiring a Ghanaian passport.

Doku’s trip to Ghana is nearing its end, and the electric winger is set to return to Manchester and begin pre-season training with the Cityzens
His first assignment post-break could come on August 9, when City face Palermo FC in a friendly that will serve as the curtain-raiser for the inaugural Anglo-Palermitan Trophy, according to Goal.
